According to a post on social media from the Richmond Police Department, Wayne County Emergency Communications officials received multiple 911 calls regarding shots fired in the 1600 block of East Main Street at around 7:26 p.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived at the scene, the department stated that witnesses directed them to a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Misty Wooten from Richmond. Wooten was later identified as the suspected shooter.
During the incident, Wooten allegedly fired a gun at a man. The post read that no one was ultimately injured. Wooten was taken into custody on the following preliminary charges:
“Let me be clear. If you pick up a weapon and try to harm someone in this city, we will find you, we will stop you and we will make sure you face justice,” Kyle Weatherly, the chief of police for the Richmond Police Department, said in the post. “Richmond is not a place where violence will go unchecked. Our officers responded with urgency, professionalism and strength, and they will continue to do so every time our community is threatened.”
