Man arrested after argument over dog walking leads to stabbing in Riverton

RIVERTON, Utah (ABC4) — One man was arrested in Riverton after an argument lead to a stabbing late Thursday night.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Riverton Police responded to the area of 5290 West and Elk Horn Peak Drive around 11:15 p.m. on a report of a stabbing. A witness told police that Dale Talbot, 42, had stabbed another man.

Officers were able to locate the injured man, who sustained a stab wound to their abdomen. During witness interviews, each of them told police Talbot and the victim began arguing about walking the dog.

Talbot was going to walk the dog without a leash, but his mother insisted the leash be put on the dog. The victim agreed with Talbot’s mother, saying “if the dog got hit by a car, he would beat the [expletive] out of him.” A verbal confrontation started between Talbot and the victim, with it quickly becoming physical after Talbot went to his bedroom and grabbed two throwing knives.

Witnesses on scene told police Talbot started chasing the victim with a knife in each hand in the kitchen. The victim reportedly used a cane and sitting bench to try and prevent Talbot from getting to him. Talbot dropped one knife but stabbed the victim with the other.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Talbot was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a second-degree felony.
