Jackson students back in class with updated policies, resources

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson students returned to class on Monday. This year, there are some new policies and resources within the Jackson Public School District (JPS).

“With our device ban, specifically cellphones, we’re trying to put as much of the focus on teaching and learning as possible, just given that the tech distractions can really inhibit learning” said Dr. Michael Cormack, JPS Deputy Superintendent. “And so, one of our goals is to make certain that teachers have the opportunity to do what they do best, and our scholars have a few less distractions.

“The best thing for parents to do is just keep the lines of communication open. We have an excellent platform on Parents Square this year that allows two-way communication between the teachers and the parents,” said Dr. Stacey Webb, principal of Lanier High School.

JPS officials said they’re focused on creating an environment for all students to excel.
