The crash occurred on Highway 468 near Greenfield Circle around 4:00 a.m. on July 25.
Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said the deputy, who was identified as Deputy Jalan Parker, had his emergency lights and sirens activated while responded to the call. He said the preliminary reports showed that another vehicle entered the highway from Greenfield Circle in front of Parker.
Parker and the other driver, who was identified as 38-year-old Uguster Jones, of Brandon, were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson in stable condition.
According to the GoFundMe, Parker broke his left hip and had to undergo extensive surgery. Once discharged from UMMC, he will be transferred to Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
“All funds will go directly to him and his fiancé for food, basic life, and medical expenses while he is out of work during this time. He is expected to be out of work for no less than three months, possibly more,” said Toni Sumrall and Darby Saulsbury, the organizers of the GoFundMe.
