The fire happened on Maria Road around 6:30 a.m. A firefighter sustained a fatal injury, according to the department. Fire officials said they encountered heavy fire conditions at the home.
The homeowners were uninjured but have been displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family. The deceased firefighter has not been identified at this time. Mutual aid was provided by departments from Bristol and Farmington.
“It’s always emotional when one of your friends get sent to the hospital,” Dave Simard, the deputy chief of the Bristol Fire Department said. “It’s just like a family member getting rushed to the hospital.”
The fire is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
