Jonathon Anderson, 26, of Muncie is suspected of plowing his truck into a home on S. Kathy Drive in Muncie on Friday evening. Police noted Anderson appeared “heavily intoxicated” when officers arrived on scene with numerous empty alcoholic containers found in his truck, including Natty Daddy, White Claw and 99 proof watermelon liquor.
Anderson is currently being held in Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, battery against a public official, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief.
According to court documents, a Muncie police officer arrived at the scene on Kathy Drive at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Friday to find Anderson struggling on the street while being handcuffed by a sheriff’s deputy. He was noted as being “belligerent” and unremorseful, despite his truck having been rammed into the home.
The officer reported that Anderson’s Nissan pickup appeared to have driven through the garage door and slammed into the interior wall connecting the home and garage. The garage area of the house was still smoking, the officer noted, while the smell of burnt tires permeated the air.
“The garage door was completely caved in and was toward the back of the garage,” the officer wrote in his report. “An interior wall was caved in at the bottom and an exterior wall at the side of the garage also appeared to be displaced by the crash.”
Items both in the garage and in the kitchen of the home were thrown and scattered by the impact of the truck. Police said Anderson’s only concern seemed to be about if his truck was okay.
“(Anderson) did not appear to be remorseful about his actions,” the officer noted in his report.
Witnesses told officers that Anderson arrived at the home on Kelly Drive to pick up his wife and child. His wife allegedly refused to get in the truck due to Anderson’s drunken state.
Anderson allegedly revved his engine and threatened to drive his truck into the house if they didn’t get in, according to witnesses. He made good on the threat with witnesses quickly calling 911 after the truck slammed into the home.
Court documents detail that Anderson refused to take a breathalyzer test and was taken to the hospital for a blood draw.
At the time of publishing, official charges have not yet been filed in this case. The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office makes final charging decisions.
