According to the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency, paramedics were called to nine heat-related incidents on Saturday and six on Sunday. That’s up from just three calls on Friday, as temperatures and humidity levels climbed into the weekend.
The surge comes as Mecklenburg County remains under a Heat Advisory through Tuesday at 8 p.m., with “feels like” temperatures soaring well into the triple digits. Richmond County is under an even more serious Extreme Heat Warning, where the heat index could top 109 degrees.
The heat wave is expected to continue through midweek, with highs near 99 degrees on Monday and more hot, humid conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. While pop-up afternoon storms could offer some brief relief, overnight lows will only dip into the upper 70s.
A cooldown is in sight, though. Rain and storm chances increase by midweek, and by the weekend, Charlotte could finally enjoy some much cooler temperatures in the low 80s.
