4 teens shot, 1 in critical condition, after gunman opens fire into crowd of people gathered outside on West Side: CPD

CHICAGO — Four teenagers were shot, with one reportedly in critical condition, when someone opened fire into a crowd of people standing outside late Sunday night on the city’s West Side, according to Chicago police.

Police say officers responded to a call of a person shot just before 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Springfield Avenue, in the Garfield Park/Lawndale area.

A preliminary investigation, according to police, indicates two unknown males were in an argument, when one of them took out a gun and opened fire into a crowd of people standing outside, hitting multiple victims.

Police say four teenagers were injured, including a 14-year-old boy who was taken to an area hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Additionally, according to police, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the right leg and taken to an area hospital in good condition, a 16-year-old girl was shot multiple times in the body and taken to an area hospital in fair condition and a 13-year-old boy was shot in the right thigh and taken to an area hospital in fair condition.

Police say nobody is in custody, and Area Four detectives are investigating the incident.
