SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC4) — One person was treated for injuries after a fire started in the basement of a Spanish Fork home Saturday afternoon.

In a press release, Spanish Fork Fire said they responded to a report of a residential fire in the area of 900 East Canyon Drive around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire in a basement bedroom and smoke throughout the basement.

The family of the home was able to evacuate before fire crews arrived. The home sustained significant damage and has been deemed uninhabitable, with the family displaced and staying with relatives.

The fire reportedly started in a basement bedroom where a teenage male had ignited cardboard on fire. The teenage male was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns to his hands and for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion.
