FREDONIA, Ariz. (ABC4) — Fire crews continue to increase containment on the White Sage Fire burning in northern Arizona.
In an update on Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service confirmed the White Sage Fire is at 58,985 acres and is at 81% containment. Due to the increase in containment, Highway 89A has been reopened, though officials say smoke will continue to be seen on the southeastern part of the fire.
Officials confirm the east side of the fire has not been fully contained due to the difficult terrain, but fire activity in the area has been minimal over several days. This is allowing firefighters to patrol the area to make sure there is no further movement.
While Highway 89A is open to travel, State Highway 67, which leads to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, remains closed due to fire suppression efforts on the Dragon Bravo Fire.
