Free electric vehicle charging is in Yosemite National Park

YOSEMITE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – As the summer season continues, visitors continue to descend upon Yosemite National Park to see everything the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site has to offer.

Yosemite, famed for its giant trees and granite cliffs, also has something modern to offer its visitors: free electric vehicle charging. It means visitors who used an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid to get into the park have a free option to charge up their car so they are ready for the return journey.

Yosemite National Park has eight EV charging stations dotted around the park. Locations include:

• Curry Village (located in the parking lot west of Curry Village and east of Stoneman Bridge).
• Yosemite Valley Welcome Center (in the parking lot on the east side of the Yosemite Valley Welcome Center)
• Yosemite Falls (on the northeast corner of the day use parking area)
• Yosemite Valley Lodge (chargers can be found in front of the Alder building and also between the Laurel and Juniper buildings)
• The Ahwahnee (at the southwestern end of the parking area, and users do not need to be a hotel guest to use them)
• Tuolumne Meadows (west of the Tuolumne Meadows Store)
• Wawona Store (in the parking lot adjacent to the store)
• El Portal Market and Gas Station (in the parking lot adjacent to the gas station)

According to the National Park Service, all charging stations use the J1772 connectors.

The free electric vehicle charging is provided by Yosemite Hospitality. The group tells YourCentralValley.com that it is proud to offer free EV charging stations to continue to support its mission of being good stewards to the park.

Providing electric vehicle charging is just one piece of that. We are also actively working to update our fleet of work vehicles to be electric and as energy-efficient as possible.
