The San Francisco wine bar is under fire after TikTok user @itskarlabb shared her side of an allegedly uncomfortable encounter with the restaurant’s head chef Luke Sung on Wednesday. According to the local, self-described “micro–influencer,” Sung belittled her publicly for her once-modest social media presence and suggested that the restaurant cancel its plans to host her for a “collaboration.”
Her TikTok post about the ordeal quickly went viral, receiving more than 19 million views. The restaurant was bombarded by negative reviews in response to the viral video and Sung, a prominent Bay Area chef, was fired over the encounter, the restaurant announced. Itskarlabb’s following, meanwhile, grew from 15,000 to 335,000 followers in three days.
Notable internet celebrities like Cooper have since commented on her posts, adding their thoughts on the local restaurant drama.
“I’m so sorry queen,” Cooper wrote in the post’s comment section. “He spoke it into existence tho! We your audience will never ever be dining at Kis Cafe.”
“Otakoyakisoba,” a Bay Area influencer with more than 17.5 million followers also responded and reposted her video.
“Thanks for the heads up, won’t visit that place and will tell others not to as well,” they wrote. “… Please keep doing your content and keep your head up. No one deserves to be treated like that.”
Kis Cafe has since announced on social media that it has temporarily closed and is “restructuring after these events.” KRON4 has reached out to @itskarlabb and Kis Cafe in response to the internet drama, but has not received a response.
