GREENVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) — The Muhlenberg County community is coming to remember one of their own. Family and friends gathered along Main Street in Greenville for a procession of honor for a fallen airman.

The town was silent and the only thing that could be heard were the sounds of the cars driving past the crowd for the procession of Brayden Lovan.

“We always talked about the great kid that he is,” said family friend Mischelle Nelson. “And he would have had a great future. We always felt that. And when they told us that he was going to the Air Force, we were very excited.”

Lovan was a Greenville-native that entered the Air Force in 2023 after graduating from Muhlenberg County High School. Officials say Lovan died during an on-duty incident at a Wyoming air force base.

Tiffany Harper has known the family since she was fifteen years old. When it came to talking about Lovan, she says emotions are still high but was able to write her thoughts in the form of a letter.

“He left an imprint on anyone that crossed paths with him and without a doubt, I know that he is still smiling down on us,” Harper said. “You will forever hold a space in our hearts. Rest easy, kid.”

For Mischelle Nelson, Lovan was very close to her granddaughter and her fiance.

“He would have been the best man,” Nelson said. “He was like a brother to them. He just had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room he walked in.”

Throughout the day, the community has been chatting amongst themselves and keeping track of updates for when Lovan and his family would be returning home.

“It’s wonderful to see how the community has come together and mourned this happened to Brayden,” Nelson said. “He was just an overall good kid.”

Although Harper can’t imagine going through the same tragedy she wanted to help coordinate the community’s involvement for Lovan’s return.

“I contacted the police department, Central Dispatch, Central City Fire Department for the flag, Greenville Fire Department,” Harper said. We just kind of came together and said, ‘We’re going to do this.’ That’s what we do. We show up.”

Despite the summer heat Harper says it’s heartwarming to see the community show up for a man she’s known for years.
