According to RRPD, during a traffic stop shortly after midnight off I-35 near IKEA, officers saw “what appeared to be explosive-like materials inside.” It was later determined that the materials in the vehicle were not explosives.
RRPD said the north and south lanes of I-35 were temporarily shut down while specialized units responded.
“The driver was safely detained and later determined to be experiencing a mental health crisis,” RRPD said.
As of 10:20 a.m., RRPD said the investigation remained ongoing.
