According to a news release, Kentucky State Police (KSP) was asked just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, to help investigate a two-vehicle crash near the 13,000 block of KY-261.
An initial investigation showed that Joseph Maynard, 48, of Owensboro, was driving a Ford F-150 heading south when he allegedly drove across the center line “for unknown reasons,” hitting a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Hunter Lyons, 22. Both pickup trucks became “engulfed in flames,” state police wrote.
Lyons and a one-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. A woman in the Silverado was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Maynard was also killed in the crash.
The area of KY-261 where the crash happened was closed for several hours but has since reopened. An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
