CHICAGO — A passenger in a car that Chicago police say ran a red light and hit another car early Sunday morning on the city’s West Side was killed.

According to a preliminary investigation by police, a 20-year-old man was driving east in the 3800 block of West Lake Street, in Garfield Park, in a blue Ford sedan with three passengers — a 22-year-old man and two other 20-year-old men — when he disregarded a traffic signal just before 4 a.m.

The Ford sedan then hit a red Chevy going south and being driven by a 37-year-old woman, with a 35-year-old female passenger, according to police.

The 22-year-man riding in the Ford sedan was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old driver and the two 20-year-old passengers were taken to an area hospital in fair condition with unknown injuries, police say.

Meanwhile, both women in the red Chevy that was hit refused medical service at the scene, according to police.

Major Accidents is investigating the fatal crash, and police say citations are pending.
