Weekend Weather: Rain Saturday & Hot Sunday

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across the ArkLaTex on Saturday.  Sunshine will return on Sunday as the heat begins to increase.

Weekend begins with rain & ends with heat:   Most models, including Futurecast, indicate that a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the ArkLaTex on Saturday.  The rain will be most widespread during the late afternoon and early evening.  It will quickly end after sunset.  We will see a mostly cloudy sky on Saturday night.  Sunday will begin with some clouds and end with a mix of sunshine and clouds

The mini break from the heat ends:  The weekend will begin with slightly below normal temperatures on Saturday as daytime highs will be in the low to middle 90s.  Thanks to the return of more sunshine and the beginning of the return of upper-level high pressure’s control of our weather, it will be hotter on Sunday as highs will return to the middle 90s with a few upper 90s possible. Overnight lows this weekend will likely stay in the mid to upper 70s.  

Futurecast continues to show that rain will be limited for most of the area with amounts of 1/10” or less.  However, we will see a few scattered locations receive ½ to 1”.

Long-range outlook: Upper-level high pressure will be in firm control of our weather during the beginning of next week.  Daytime highs will gradually warm back close to 100 degrees by the middle of the week.  Another disturbance will move along the bottom of the ridge during the last half of the week.  This will bring another shot at some showers and thunderstorms and will also result in daytime highs retreating back into the middle 90s.  Overnight lows will remain in the low to middle 70s.
