The committee will be hosting its annual shoe and backpack giveaway on Saturday, August 9th.
African American Celebration Parade founder and event organizer Barbara Norton says the committee has hosted this event for the community for 21 years, distributing 31,000 pairs of shoes.
“We want to make sure that all children have an opportunity to look, to listen, to learn, and to be able to feel good about themselves,” says Norton.
Families interested in receiving the free items must provide valid ID, proof of government assistance, and sign up prior to the giveaway.
You can sign up on Monday, July 28th, at the following locations:
3709 Greenwood Rd. from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
6363 Hearne Ave #115 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The last chance to sign up is Tuesday, July 29th at 1827 Nelson St. from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Your child must be present to receive the shoes and backpack during the giveaway on August 9th.
