SF Marathon 2025 road closures for this weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Marathon takes place this weekend with thousands of runners and spectators expected along city streets. The marathon features six events including the full marathon, two half marathons, a 10K, a 5K and the Chargel SF Ultra Marathon.

Events take place across the entire weekend with main marathon set for Sunday, July 27 and getting underway at 5:15 a.m. Throughout the weekend, there will be extensive street closures set for Sunday.

SF Marathon road closures

Road closures will be posted locally and mailed to residents within impacted areas.

  • At major entrances to Golden Gate Park and major roadways one week prior to the race
  • On the day of the event, at entrances and diversion points in the park

The Embarcadero — 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Northbound Embarcadero/King Street will be closed from 3rd to Broadway
  • Southbound Embarcadero will be closed from Broadway to Harrison

Fisherman’s Wharf — 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

  • Jefferson Street between Powell and Hyde, no vehicles will be allowed when runners are present

Marina District

  • Westbound lanes of Bay Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m
  • Northbound Laguna Street from Bay to Marin Boulevard from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • West lanes of Marina Blvd. to Yacht Road from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. — Northbound traffic should detour along Van Ness Ave.

Golden Gate Bridge Roadway Lanes & Sidewalks

  • Vehicle traffic will remain open in both directions across the GGB throughout the race event
  • The east side bridge sidewalk will open at 9 a.m. to bikes and pedestrians, west side bridge sidewalk will open at 10 a.m. to bikes only

Golden Gate Bridge exit and parking area

  • Will remain open on the south side of the bridge
  • Vista Point exit (northeast side) and the Vista Point parking lot will be closed from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Alexander Avenue Exit and Fort Baker — 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.

  • Alexander Avenue will be open to Fort Baker and Cavallo Point Traffic only
  • Sausalito traffic continue north on 101 to Bridgeway

Presidio and Golden Gate National Recreation Area — 5 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

  • From 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., no access to the Golden Gate Bridge through the Presidio
  • Lincoln Boulevard and all intersections onto Lincoln from the 25th Ave. gate to Lendrum Court will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Baker Beach residents may enter and exit housing areas via the service road from Battery Caulfiend
  • Old Mason Street and all intersections onto Old Mason will be closed from the Marina Gate to Crissy Field Avenue from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Richmond District — 6:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

  • Eastbound and Westbound vehicle traffic should expect delays at 26th Ave. and 27th Ave.
  • 26th and 27th Avenues from Fulton Street to Lake Street closed to through traffic, cross traffic allowed intermittently on California, Clement, Geary, Balboa or Cabrillo — delays expected
  • Residents west of 27th Ave. encouraged to use the Great Highway to Lincoln Boulevard

Golden Gate Park, Sunset and Richmond Districts — 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • North and south access through Golden Gate Park should be 19th Ave/Park Presidio — expect delays
  • In Golden Gate Park, southbound Crossover Drive to Transverse at JFK Dr. will be closed, 19th Ave to Blue Heron Lake Dr. will be closed from 5 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Sunset Blvd at MLK Dr. will be closed from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., 41st Ave at Chain of Lakes will be closed from approx 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., JFK Dr. at Chain of Lakes will be closed from approx. 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Upper Haight Street — 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • North and south access across Upper Haight Street should use Kezar Drive — expect delays

Lower Haight Street

  • North and south access across Lower Haight Street should use Steiner or Fillmore — expect delays

Market Street

  • Westbound and eastbound travel on and access to Market at Duboce Ave. and Guerrero Street should expect delays

Mission & Potrero Districts: 15th, 16th, 17th streets — 6:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Northbound and southbound traffic needing to cross 15th, 16th and 17th should use Highway 280 or Highway 101 when possible. Crossovers are also available at some city streets, delays expected

Third Street detour — 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Impacted between Mariposa and 20th streets
  • Southbound traffic should use westbound Mariposa to Tennessee to westbound 18th Street overpass to southbound Pennsylvania Street to eastbound 20th or 23rd Street to Third Street
  • Northbound traffic should use westbound 23rd Street of 20th Street to northbound Pennsylvania to eastbound 18th Street to Tennessee to Mariposa to Thir

Oracle Park, Mission Rock, South Beach — 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Terry Francois Blvd. will be closed
