CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Delegate Josh Holstein (R) of Boone County was voted in as the WVGOP’s next party chair on Saturday.
Holstein confirmed with 13 News that there were two rounds of voting for the position.
In the first round, the votes were 57-Holstein, 55-Wes Perry and 7-Dr. Michael George. In the second round, it was 63-Holstein and 56-Wes Perry.
The appointment comes in the wake of Former Party Chair and Secretary of Commerce Matt Herridge’s decision to step down from the chair position to focus on his other responsibilities.
Leading up to the vote, Holstein earned the endorsement of U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R). Holstein said the endorsement was granted after some conversations with Senator Justice, saying he wanted to work on the Republican image.
