Jail records show 76-year-old Max Wayne Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of sodomy in the first degree and two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 12.
Investigators with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office say that on Tuesday, deputies were told of a sexual assault involving a minor, and on Wednesday, the victim was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center.
According to the HCSO, after the interview, investigators identified Smith as the suspect, and he was brought in for questioning and later charged.
Smith is being held in the Houston County Jail without bond.
“Sheriff Valenza and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office commend the work done by the Houston County DHR and the Child Advocacy Center,” the HCSO said in a release. “Our partnership with these agencies is critical in seeing that juvenile victims receive the justice they deserve.
