Russell County Search and Rescue posted on Facebook that around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, the Army Corps of Engineers was using the dam to generate power when all three men were sent into frigid water conditions.
Rescue team members wrote that generating operations were quickly halted, and all three men were safely rescued “thanks to their life jackets, the swift response and nearby individuals.”
Two of the three survivors were reportedly taken to Russell County Hospital to be treated for mild hypothermia and later released.
Rescue officials thanked Russell County Dispatch, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, and the many other responders who helped the three men get to safety.
