Wednesday started pretty pleasant for most of the area, with the humidity still low in most locations, but the afternoon brought dangerously high temperatures, high humidity and sweltering heat index values.
Chicago’s official high temperature, recorded at O’Hare International Airport, came in at 94 degrees, making it the 19th day of the year the airport has seen temperatures in excess of 90 degrees. Midway International Airport has had 18 days so far above 90 degrees.
A Heat Advisory that went into effect Wednesday morning is set to continue until 10 p.m. Thursday.
While Wednesday opened with a mix of sun and clouds, skies trended sunnier as the day progressed, with only a scattering of puffy fair-weather cumulus clouds.
Wednesday saw 91% of available sunshine.
