WEATHER AWARE: Dangerous heat; hottest readings yet

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- We have been tracking strong thunderstorms for the end of your work week. Despite the rain this evening, many areas still had heat indices in the triple digits.

Weekend: Saturday afternoon is shaping up to be rather pleasant… in comparison to the past week. A few pop up showers will be possible, but most areas will remain dry. Highs will sit in the mid 90s.

The heat will begin to build again on Sunday. We will have plenty of sunshine thanks to high pressure. This high pressure will also give us readings near 100 and heat indices approaching 105 degrees.

Next Week: Our hottest weather of the year is approaching Monday and Tuesday. With heat indices possibly above 110 degrees, we will be weather aware on Monday and Tuesday. Actual highs will sit above the century mark as well.

Heat Advisories are likely (heat indices above 105 degrees), but we will be watching for the possibility of an Extreme Heat Warning (heat indices above 110 degrees).

Scattered showers and storms will begin to build again on Tuesday, but cooler readings won’t be seen until the end of next week. Highs will cool into the mid-90s by next Friday. Rainfall chances will stay through next weekend.
