‘The Finish with Kor & Tor’ remembers Hulk Hogan

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The wrestling world is in shock at the sudden news of legendary wrestling star, “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan. Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, passed away Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The Hulkster was known for calling his biceps “24-inch pythons,” shirt rips, his unmistakable yellow moustache, and his signature leg drop finisher. Tributes from across the world of wrestling continue to pour in from superstars of the past and present.

Hogan is credited with helping to spearhead the mainstream popularity of professional wrestling in the 1980s. (Think MTV and Rock ‘n’ Wrestling.) He gave the industry a much-needed adrenaline shot in the ’90s when he shocked fans and became a villain with the nWo (New World Order), again boosting the mainstream appeal of wrestling and recharging a character that had started to wear old on fans.

While Hogan’s life outside of the squared circle was largely mired in controversy — after a sex tape surfaced and racist comments were caught on tape — The Finish with Kor & Tor takes a look back at his storied career inside the ring.

“Hogan was the shot in the arm for promotions. That was probably the shot in the arm for the Monday Night Wars, at that point. I think this is what kicked off the Monday Night Wars. To see him go from white-meat babyface, ‘say your prayers and eat your vitamins’ to ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan. My cousin who was a year older than me at that time destroyed all of his Hulk Hogan merchandise at that point. It was still real to him.”
