RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Rankin County deputy, who was responding to a call about a possible home invasion, was injured during a two-vehicle crash.

The crash occurred on Highway 468 near Greenfield Circle around 4:00 a.m. on July 25.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said the deputy, who was identified as Deputy Jalan Parker, had his emergency lights and sirens activated while responded to the call. He said the preliminary reports showed that another vehicle entered the highway from Greenfield Circle in front of Parker.

Parker and the other driver, who was identified as 38-year-old Uguster Jones, of Brandon, were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson in stable condition.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is investigating the cause of the crash.
