According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers responded to a shooting on the 5000 block of North Fairhill Street. While the postal worker, a 23-year-old man, was driving near the 900 block of West Courtland Street, he saw a 20-year-old man running towards his vehicle who appeared to be shot in the stomach.
The gunshot victim jumped into the USPS employee’s vehicle and asked to be taken to the hospital, police said. The gunshot victim pressed the gas pedal, and the postal worker was not able to regain control, leading to a crash with a median.
Following the crash, the gunshot victim got out of the postal vehicle and flagged down another car, which took him to Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police said he is in critical condition.
The postal worker was also taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center due to injuries from the crash.
Police recovered eight .45 caliber spent casings, seven 9mm spent casings, and firearms from the scene. So far, police do not know the motive or who is involved. The Shooting Investigation Group is investigating.
