Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta announces run for US Senate

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta announced his campaign for United States Senator on Friday, July 25.

A video was released on social media announcing Skrmetta’s campaign and offering some background on his experience and qualifications leading up to now.

Skrmetta is a graduate of Brother Martin High School, Louisiana State University and Southern Law School, with his Master of Law degree coming from Tulane Law School, and additional studies being done at Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Skrmetta also describes himself as a staunch conservative and constitutionalist, as well as a pro-life and pro-Second Amendment Republican.

The announcement described Skrmetta’s support for protecting the southern border, investing in military strength, fair and balanced trade, America’s gas and oil industry, parents’ authority over their children’s education, stopping “Green New Deal whims” and fighting the rise of drug costs, insurance rates and inflation.

In terms of Skrmetta’s role as Public Service Commissioner for Louisiana, he claims success in saving ratepayers over $8 billion through the use of various methods. When Skrmetta took the role, Louisiana ranked 28th in the nation in terms of utility rates, whereas it now ranks among the lowest.
