Workers at Kroger stores across Central Indiana, including Bloomington, have rejected a second tentative contract agreement negotiated between the company and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 700.
The union confirmed Thursday that its members voted down the proposed agreement, which follows an earlier rejection and strike authorization in June. The latest vote does not automatically trigger a strike, and union leaders say negotiations will continue.
“This does not mean a strike is imminent,” said Evan Robbins, Director of Communications for UFCW Local 700. “We are continuing to bargain with the company to reach a deal that is acceptable to membership. We will meet with Kroger again tomorrow.”
UFCW Local 700 represents more than 8,000 Kroger workers in Central Indiana. A wide range of grocery store employees are covered by the union, including clerks, cashiers, deli workers, and meat department staff. Contract negotiations have been ongoing, and the union has not announced any official events or actions at this time.
The union is asking members and the public to stay tuned to its website and social media channels for further updates.
