(FOX40.COM) — Planned Parenthood Mar Monte said it would be closing five of its offices in response to a provision in the recently passed federal budget bill.

The Mar Monte chapter said it would be closing health centers in South San Francisco, San Mateo, Gilroy, Santa Cruz, and Madera.

Part of the federal budget bill restructed Medicaid reimburstments to organizations that provide family plannign services and recieved more than $800,000 from Medicaid in 2023.

Congressman Kevin Mullin, who represents the area served by two of the closed offices, said the clinics were important to his constituency.

“The San Mateo and South San Francisco Planned Parenthood clinics have long served as a lifeline for thousands of patients in our community, many of whom are low-income, uninsured, or unable to access quality health care elsewhere,” Mullin said in a statement. “Without these clinics, vulnerable populations are left without access to critical health care, such as cancer screenings, contraception, and general health services.”

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte has 30 heath clinics across mid-California and Nevada.
