Dr. Lorraine Katz with CHOP discusses new CDC data about teens and prediabetes

According to recently release data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “New CDC data shows about 1 in 3 adolescents aged 12 to 17 years has prediabetes, a condition that significantly increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.”

Dr. Lorraine Katz, an attending physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, joined us in the PHL 17 studio to talk about this important topic and the research they’re doing at CHOP.

According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, “Dr. Katz’s investigates the sequelae of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in youth. Her research involves the intersection of sleep, obesity, and glucose intolerance and prevention of cardiovascular risk. Her studies have led to the evaluation of quantitative tools important for assessment of metabolic risk in youth.”
