Demand for bass fishing info is high; one of the best sources is in Virginia

MONETA, Va. (WFXR) — Black bass are the most popular gamefish in the United States with more than 30-million Americans targeting largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass. They are available in 49 of our 50 states, and they are accessible and can be found in many lakes and streams.

While you can reach them, catching them is another matter. Knowledge is king when it comes to the pursuit of bass. The more you know about the species and techniques, the better your chances are of landing one.

It is that demand for knowledge by so many that leads us to one of the prime sources of bass fishing information; The Bass Cast. It is a one stop source for all things bass fishing and especially coverage of the tournament and professional bass fishing circuits.

The Lynchburg-based Bass Cast is the brainchild of Brian Carter: “It’s a billion dollar industry with events going on every weekend. ”

Carter spends countless hours on the road following the various tournament circuits. Other times he is running the website and the various social media outlets The Bass Cast uses to put out its media message.

“We saw a need for tournament information,” said Carter during a brief interview at Smith Mountain Lake. “A lot of people want to know where they’re going to fish a tournament, where a tournament is going to be held. Tournaments now are huge.”

During a recent Major League Fishing (MLF) event on the James River near Richmond, Carter could be seen and heard talking to numerous big names on the MLF circuit.

“Hey guys, Brian here with thebasscast.com,” was the familiar refrain over and over as Carter talked with the pros about their day and tactics on the James.

But, The Bass Cast is more than just tournament coverage. There are lake reports from local anglers, including one done for Smith Mountain Lake by highly-respected local bass tournament angler Chad Green, as well as gear guides, technique discussions, and The Bass Cast Radio.

“It’s just something I love and I love media and thought it would be a great way to help anglers throughout the area.,” said Carter as he described his passion. “We’re all a tight knit family who help each other and work with each other.”
