Connecticut Sun to stay in Connecticut for 2026 season

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — Big news for Connecticut basketball fans — the Connecticut Sun will continue to play in the state next season, Mohegan leadership confirmed Thursday.

The Mohegan Tribe have been exploring a potential sale of the WNBA team since the spring.

The governors of two neighboring states, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, have expressed interest in bringing the WNBA to their states. WPRI reported that Gov. Dan McKee of Rhode Island met with a potential buyer based in that state.

While leadership stated that they’re still considering all options, they will remain in Connecticut for next season.

“As Mohegan leadership continues to evaluate all strategic opportunities, the Connecticut Sun plan to play at Mohegan Sun Arena for the 2026 WNBA season,” they said in a statement to News 8.
