AUSTIN (KXAN) — A jury convicted a 48-year-old man on a murder charge connected to an October 2023 shooting, according to a Thursday press release from the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.

The jury returned its verdict on July 17. The defendant, Joshua Fernando Trezaratti, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. He will be held at a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility.

The deadly shooting happened on Oct. 24, 2023 on Mickelson Drive in southeast Austin. The Austin Police Department responded to the scene and found a man, Joshua Rivera, had been shot several times. Trezaratti later identified himself as the shooter, according to court documents.

On Oct. 25, 2023, APD arrested Trezaratti and charged him with murder. Then, on Dec. 11, 2023, he was indicted on the murder charge, according to the DA’s office.

“Our office is grateful to our committed staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victim and their family,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza in the release. “We hope this verdict continues to help the victim’s family with their healing journey.”
