
Court documents identified the defendant as Zavien Castilleja.
On Oct. 22, 2022, the Austin Police Department responded to a report of crash in northwest Austin and found 18-year-old Andrew Clayton Johnson’s vehicle hit a pole near a restaurant. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Johnson with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
On Jan. 23, 2023, APD detectives arrested Castilleja, who was 17 years old at the time, along with another juvenile, police said. Castilleja was charged with capital murder at the time of his arrest. The other juvenile was charged with second degree felony criminal conspiracy at the time of his arrest.
Castilleja is entitled to 884 days of jail credit, according to court documents.
