A deputy was travelling Northbound on I-95 near mile marker 142 around 7 p.m. when they noticed a Toyota that had passed them on the right going over 20 miles above the speed limit.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, to which the Toyota initially slowed down onto the 143A exit ramp before quickly accelerating back into the Northbound lane, almost striking a nearby car. The driver proceeded to pass vehicles at high speeds and drove with “extreme recklessness and disregard for public safety,” resulting in the deputy ending the pursuit.
The driver’s license plate traced back to a home in Stafford, where an initial investigation determined the driver was a 16-year-old who had taken a family member’s car without their knowledge.
The deputy drove to the teen’s home and waited for them to return, where they were detained and transported to a Juvenile Detention Center.
Deputies say a criminal complaint was filed for felony eluding, two counts of reckless driving, three counts of passing on the shoulder, driving without a license, and unauthorized use of a vehicle
