100+ Indiana athletes gear up for 2026 Special Olympics Games

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Special Olympics Indiana is kicking off its series of Team Indiana training camps this weekend at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Special Olympics Indiana says this series of training camps is in preparation for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, which in June of 2026 will unite more than 100,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans in Minnesota.

This weekend, more than 100 athletes, coaches and support staff will come to Rose-Hulman to prepare for the 2026 games. The weekend includes practices, team meetings, team building and more.

“We are excited to get everyone together at Rose-Hulman and begin our training for the 2026 USA Games,” said Katie Hilt, the Team Indiana Head of Delegation and Special Olympics Indiana Director of Sports and Competition. “These athletes have worked hard to get to this point and represent their peers on the national stage. They know that the job is only starting as we prepare to compete against the top athletes from across the United States.”

Saturday’s practice schedules include:

  • Cornhole (SRC Fieldhouse)
  • Flag football (Cook Stadium)
  • Soccer (Cook Stadium)
  • Swimming (Natatorium)

While Sunday’s practice schedule will include:

  • Basketball (Hulbert Arena)
  • Bocce (Hulbert Arena)
  • Bowling (Vigo Bowl)
  • Golf (Hulman Golf Course)
  • Powerlifting (SRC weight room)
  • Track and field (Cook Stadium)

Team Indiana will compete in 10 sports: basketball, bocce, bowling, cornhole, flag football, golf, powerlifting, soccer and track and field. Athlete and coach rosters are available here: Team Indiana – Special Olympics Indiana.
