Woman charged in Columbia cold case

COLUMBIA, Miss. (WHLT) – Columbia police arrested a woman in connection to a cold case.

Investigators said Nancy Bass Ledger was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Joseph Woodward in 2021.

According to investigators, detectives gathered enough information that led to Ledger’s arrest on July 24, 2025. She is believed to have been involve din the events surrounding Woodward’s death.

“This arrest marks a significant step forward in resolving this tragic case. We hope this brings some measure of closure to those affected by this crime,” Columbia Police Chief Adrien Fortenberry said.
