Vehicle thefts see first year-over-year drop since 2019, Newsom’s office says

(FOX40.COM) — California recorded its first year-over-year drop in vehicle thefts since 2019 last year, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said.

According to the governor’s office, the number of vehicles stolen statewide decreased 13% from 2023 to 2024.

The governor credited increased efforts by law enforcement agencies for the reduction.

“We continue to put the safety of California communities first,” Newsom said in a statement. “Through strategic funding and partnerships with local and state law enforcement partners, we are putting a brake on lawlessness and criminals disrupting our way of life.”
