RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The top public university leaders in the state of North Carolina are set to gather on Thursday for their final meeting before the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

The UNC System Board of Governors will join virtually for a one-day meeting, slated to discuss an abbreviated agenda that concerns the budget and finance committee.

The board is receiving multiple reports, including an outline of campus budgets for the fiscal year as well as an update on the state budget.

Talks among North Carolina lawmakers regarding the budget collapsed this past spring, with the beginning of the 2025-26 fiscal year – July 1 – arriving without a deal being made between the Senate and House of Representatives.

Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
