San Francisco burglary suspect accused of stealing pricey bikes, vehicle

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man suspected in 17 residential burglaries in San Francisco has been charged by the District Attorney’s Office, DA Brooke Jenkins announced Thursday. Gaspar Dzul-Canul, 28, allegedly stole several expensive bicycles, along with a vehicle, and caused thousands of dollars in damages during the crime spree.

Three initial cases charged against Dzul-Canul were in connection with residential burglaries that occurred in the Richmond District on May 22 and May 28, the DA’s office said. He pleaded not guilty to the unlawful taking of a vehicle and three counts of first-degree residential burglary.

After the arraignment, prosecutors said the San Francisco Police Department tied Dzul-Canul to an additional 14 residential burglaries.

In one burglary, Dzul-Canul allegedly stole bicycles from a closed garage after he drilled holes into the garage door and used a long antenna-type tool to release the emergency latch. In two other burglaries that occurred overnight on February 2, he allegedly stole two bicycles worth $14,000 and caused $6,000 in damage to the garage doors.

Overnight on May 11, prosecutors said Dzul-Canul stole two bicycles valued at $7,200 from another home.

Dzul-Canul is next scheduled to appear in court on July 29 for his cases.
