Saints training camp kicks off with new head coach Kellen Moore

METAIRIE, La. (KLFY) — New Orleans Saints football is officially back. Wednesday on Airline Drive was the first day of Saints training camp under head coach Kellen Moore. For many of the veterans on the roster, this was their first time getting to interact with the former Philadelphia offensive coordinator.

“Incredibly smart, incredibly talented,” linebacker Demario Davis said. “I think his resumé speaks for itself. When you see the ascension that he’s had in his career, I think it doesn’t take long being around him to see why. He is constantly thinking ahead. He’s very big on, like, time efficiency. And I think we play a game that really comes down to efficiency. So somebody who naturally thinks like that, I think, is going to be great. He’s very culture-oriented and building the culture the right way, and something that guys want to be a part of and proud they are a part of.”

Defensive end Cam Jordan added how Moore’s background as a quarterback can be used as an advantage.

“He’s a quarterback. Have you ever heard me talk about quarterbacks? They’re really good people, and at the same time, they’re always very calculative.” Jordan said. “So he’s smiling, but in my mind he’s scheming. So I’m going to call him low-key for now. You know what I’m saying? Like there’s some menace behind his smile because he’s thinking of how best to take advantage of the situation at hand.”

Running back Alvin Kamara said that he enjoys Moore’s presence on the practice field and his confidence as a head coach.

“Nah, he cool man. I think he’s excited. I think he got good energy.” Kamara said. “Like I said earlier, I think he has a rhyme and a reason why he does things. He knows what he wants. And I think that’s one of the biggest things. I think in being a player and a coach, like, just having the confidence to say something, do something, and then stand on it, like have a reason why, like, whether it goes wrong or right. Like, well, I did this because and then be able to stick with it. So I kind of get that vibe from him.”

As the Saints prepare for the season, they look forward to Moore’s leadership and how he impact the game. The preseason will begin. on August 10th when they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers.
