ROY, Utah (ABC4) — A man living in Roy has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing his step-grandchild on multiple occasions.
A 39-year-old Roy man, whom ABC4 is not identifying to protect the victim, has been charged with rape of a child, a first-degree felony, and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
According to documents, on July 13, 2025, the 39-year-old’s step-grandchild told their parents that he had inappropriately touched them while they were alone. The child’s parents reported what happened, and they were brought in for an interview at the Children’s Justice Center.
During the July 21 interview, the child allegedly disclosed that they were on a camping trip in Weber County when the 39-year-old took her tubing alone. They said that while they were walking together, he touched them inappropriately, and they had to pull his hand away to make him stop. The 39-year-old then sexually assaulted his step-grandchild.
The child also stated that he had done something similar two other times, both while they were at their grandmother’s house. Following this interview, Weber County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and took the 39-year-old into custody.
The Roy man was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail. He has an initial court appearance on Friday, July 25.
Previously, the Roy man pleaded guilty to lewdness involving a child and child abuse involving injury in 2021. At that time, he was placed on 36 months’ probation and ordered to register as a sex offender. A charge of sodomy on a child was dropped, and the severity of his charges was lowered through his plea deal.
