Police release image of alleged armed cop impersonator, convicted felon

The Hemet Police Department has released an unedited image of Marshal Goodnight, a man suspected of impersonating a police officer and conducting illegal traffic stops.

Goodnight was arrested earlier this week after a report that he was riding his white law enforcement-style motorcycle around Hemet, flashing his emergency lights and committing several vehicle code violations.

At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a Glock-style pistol, two working stun-guns, a telescoping baton and a container of pepper spray.

Goodnight is not only not an officer of the law, he’s actually a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing weapons, police said.

A blurred photo of Goodnight was shared by the Hemet Police Department alongside images of his uniform, weapons and motorcycle. On Wednesday, police decided to release an unaltered image of the suspect in the event any locals may recognize him or were illegally stopped by him.

“We remain committed to protecting our residents and thank the public for their continued vigilance and support,” the Police Department wrote on social media.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to contact Hemet PD Sergeant Matthew Chavez by email or by calling 951-765-2400 ext. 3725.

Anyone who suspects they’ve been pulled over by a police impersonator is urged to call 911 immediately, inform dispatchers of their location and vehicle description, and keep their windows and doors locked until a dispatcher can confirm the identity of the person stopping them.
