JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was found guilty in connection to a fatal shooting that stemmed from a broken bottle dispute in Jackson.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Gregdrick Brown, of Jackson, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Tellis May, 36.

The shooting occurred on West Capitol Street in Jackson on November 6, 2021. Jackson police said Brown and May had a prior fight at a convenience store days leading up to the fatal shooting. Witnesses told officers that the victim chased Brown with a broken beer bottled.

Days later, police said Brown encountered May again. He retrieved a handgun from an unknown individual’s nearby vehicle that was on the scene and then shot May. After the shooting, police said Brown tossed the gun back into the vehicle.

Brown’s sentencing has been scheduled for July 28.
