NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tropical moisture continues to funnel in from the east bringing more rain to the forecast. Afternoon showers and storms will keep us much cooler than we have been this week, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.
Waves from a tropical low pressure move in on Saturday bringing our chance for rain to 60%. While not a complete washout, some scattered storms could drop a few inches on rainfall on Saturday. Rain chances take a dip on Sunday as we start a drying trend stretching to midweek next week. With rain chances down for Sunday, temperatures will climb back into the 90s with heat advisories coming back into the picture.
New Orleans reached a feel like temperature of 116 degrees yesterday! Thankfully, afternoon showers and storms today will keep us cooler in the 80s.
Scattered storms are expected this afternoon through Saturday, producing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning. Isolated flash flooding is possible, as well as significant lightning. Widespread thunderstorms with dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning are expected, so if you hear thunder head indoors.
The National Hurricane Center has put out a 10% for tropical development within the next 2 days and 7 days for Southeast Louisiana stretching to Texas. A disorganized group of thunderstorms are currently moving west through the Gulf and will bring scattered storms to southeast Louisiana through Saturday. By this weekend, the low pressure is expected to move inland ending its chance for tropical development.
