Prosecutors said Ramos’ wife was not expecting her husband to return home at the time. When Ramos entered their apartment, he discovered his wife was having an affair with a co-worker. The secret lover was naked and hiding under the wife’s bed when Ramos found him, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.
Ramos grabbed a 12-inch-long knife from his kitchen, pushed his wife out of the way, and told the naked man that he was going to kill him, according to the DA’s office.
“The defendant’s three children — aged 6, 5, and 2 — were present in bedroom for attack. One child (yelled) ‘no daddy don’t!'” the DA’s office wrote.
According to prosecutors, Ramos attempted to stab the secret lover in the face, but the man blocked the blade with his arm and suffered a deep slash wound. The bleeding victim allegedly wrestled the knife away, fled from the apartment, and ran to a police station’s parking lot.
Police officers found a long blood trail leading away from the apartment complex.
Ramos is scheduled to appear in a Redwood City courthouse Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing. The judge will decide if prosecutors have enough evidence for the defendant to stand trial for attempted murder. Ramos has pleaded not guilty.
The husband is being held in custody without bail.
