The lack of significant rainfall has placed July well below average in terms of rainfall, with less than an inch of rain reported at the Columbus airport, running about 2.5 inches below average for the month.
When looking at rainfall for the year to date, we have had a little shy of 29 inches leading us to just a little less than an inch above average. The loss of surplus of rain for the year can likely be contributed to the lack of rainfall for the month.
The weekly drought monitor shows abnormally dry conditions across Barbour, Clay, Quitman, and Randolph counties. While widespread drought conditions are on hold for now, we may see an expansion of this due to the lack of significant rainfall in the forecast.
