Jerry Alan Young, 56, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on one felony charge of aggravated assault after a woman he was allegedly dating was found without a pulse.

According to court documents, Young called 911 just after 2 a.m. on June 14, 2025. In the phone call, Young tells emergency responders that the woman “had a heart attack or something.”

When deputies with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, the woman was unconscious and not breathing. Emergency medical personnel immediately performed CPR and were able to reestablish a pulse. The woman was immediately transported to the hospital.

Deputies say they found a red mark around her neck that was consistent with being strangled. Medical staff told police they also found a necklace that was “embedded in her neck.”

Young was detained on scene due to “strange and aggressive behavior.” Court documents say he was trying to get passed deputies while medical personnel were trying to perform CPR.

Police found blood on the back of Young’s shirt as well as abrasions on his right leg and knee. Young also told officers the two were engaged in sexual activity.

The woman would later gain consciousness and be admitted to the ICU, where police were able to speak with her. She soon began showing signs of memory loss, like asking repetitive questions and forgetting why she was in the hospital.

According to police, the woman had met Young six weeks ago on Facebook dating.

Officers found text messages from five days earlier between Young and the woman that indicated he had been dating another woman. The woman allegedly responded, saying that she felt like she was being groomed to accept the other woman as “a third counterpart to their relationship.”

The two didn’t speak for a few days before they agreed to meet up at Young’s house in Providence.

Young appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and is currently being held at the Cache County Jail without bail.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
