Body discovered near Chattahoochee River in Downtown Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A body was discovered on the rocks of the Chattahoochee River Wednesday afternoon, according to the Muscogee County Coroner.

Coroner Buddy Bryan told WRBL he received a call from dispatch around 3:00 P.M. claiming a body had been found on the rocks of the river behind the TSYS campus. Bryan pronounced the man dead at 3:25 P.M.

Bryan says he believes the death was heat-related.

“It’s been in the high 90’s the last couple of days,” Bryan said. “There was a fisherman that had seen him down there two days ago and when he came back down there today, he spotted the body.”

The coroner says he is awaiting the results of two other deaths from June to determine if they might be heat-related as well.
